Federal prosecutors in New York have charged Oren, Tal, and Alon Alexander with sex trafficking in an unsealed federal indictment. The three brothers were arrested in Miami early Wednesday morning — in a video obtained by the Real Deal, federal agents can be heard ordering Oren to come out of his home with his hands up.
According to the indictment, the high-profile real-estate agents Tal and Oren, along with their brother, Alon, “worked together and with others known and unknown to repeatedly and violently drug, sexually assault, and rape dozens of victims.” The indictment continues that the brothers used “the promise of luxury experiences, travel, and accommodations to lure and entice women to locations where they were then forcibly raped or sexually assaulted.” The twins Tal and Oren are also facing state felony charges of sexual battery connected to three separate incidents, according to the New York Times.
In a court appearance on Thursday, Oren requested bail in order to spend time with his wife, who is due to give birth very soon. “Her family’s in Brazil. She’s counting on me to be with her during labor,” Oren said, according to a video of the exchange. A state judge eventually granted both twins pretrial release, during which they would be placed on house arrest and would be under GPS monitoring — but they ultimately remained in custody because of the federal charges against them. They will appear in federal court again on Monday. Meanwhile, Tal is already in federal custody in Miami. According to The RealDeal, Oren called out “Love you guys” to his parents outside the courthouse on Friday. Their luxury waterfront home is being used as collateral in their release arrangements.
In March, two women, Kate Whiteman and Rebecca Mandel, accused Oren and Alon of rape in lawsuits filed in New York; in June, Angelica Parker filed a lawsuit accusing all three brothers of rape. Dozens of allegations of sexual assault and rape followed in several media investigations and subsequent lawsuits, creating a timeline of alleged assaults that spans the brothers’ high-school days through their starry careers. One alleged victim says she was assaulted by Tal Alexander as recently as 2022. Tal denied the allegations, as did Oren and Alon, through their attorneys.
Hours after their arrest, Oren and Alon were sued by attorneys in New York on behalf of another victim who says she was “violently assaulted” by the brothers in 2016 in Miami. The alleged victim was a resident of New York at the time, and is seeking relief under the city’s Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act.
Before the allegations, Oren and Tal were high-powered luxury brokers in New York and Miami, first at Douglas Elliman, then at Official, their independent venture. The pair were among the top brokers in their country. Oren and Tal’s partners at Official have since left the company, and they were sued by Side, a brokerage that was part of their firm, for failure to repay a loan. Their real-estate licenses are no longer active. Alon was an executive at the Alexander family’s company, Kent Security.
In a call on Wednesday, Whiteman’s lawyer, Evan Torgan, told me that dozens of women had contacted him in the wake of Whiteman’s lawsuit. “I’m proud of the first woman who came forward, Kate Whiteman, and the brave women who stepped up after years of suffering in silence,” he says.
